Tanya Lloyd Kyi: Hi, I'm Tanya Lloyd Kyi. I am married to a man who was born in Burma, what is now Myanmar. In Burma, my last name would be pronounced gee, halfway between chee, like cheese, and gee, like gee whiz. The trouble is if you say gee just a little bit wrong and you say chee by accident, it means the bad word for poop in Burmese. After a few weeks in North America, my father-in-law decided, "I don't like being called Mr. Poop," and he changed the way he pronounced his name, and we became the Kyi family.
