Diana Farid: My name is Diana Farid. My parents were both born in Iran. I was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in the 1970s. So even though my parents were born in Iran, my mother wanted to give me a name that would be easy to pronounce and one that she felt had some kind of tie to a lot of other languages or cultures. So she chose the name Diana. So I don't have a Farsi or Persian name. I have the name Diana because of that. My last name is Farid. Farid is my father's last name. It is a name of Arabic origin, which means peerless, but since there's been a lot of inter-mixture of the Farsi language and Arabic, even though my parents were born in Iran or are Persian, Farid comes from that language, and that's the name that I took on.
