John Lewis: I am John Lewis, the author of March: Book One, Book Two, and Book Three. March tells the story of my life growing up in rural Alabama. And as a young child I saw signs that said white waiting, color waiting, white men, colored men, white women, colored women. I heard of Rosa Parks, I heard of Martin Luther King Jr., I met Rosa Parks, I met Martin Luther King Jr. when I was very young. They inspired me to get involved in the Civil rights movement. And during those days, with black and white color students and some High school students, we would be sitting in at lunch counters in restaurants going on something called a freedom ride. And they tired to segregate us, people beat us, left us bloody. And years later I was the youngest speaker at the March on Washington when Dr. King gave his "I Have A Dream" speech. I spoke number six, Dr. King spoke number ten and out of the ten speakers, I'm the only one still around.

With others March tells the story of me, leading the march from Selma to Montgomery, for the right to vote. Because there had effort, we have changed America forever, or country is much better country, and we are a much better people.

March, is said that we should never become bitter or hostile. That we should never hate, for hate is to heavy a burden to bear. That we should be kind, and save our country, and save our planet for generations yet unborn. And always love, for love is much stronger then hate. Be hopeful, be optimistic. I got arrested forty times, for sitting in, going on the freedom ride for marching for the right to vote. But I'm a better person and a stronger person. Let us all march and walk together, that's what March is all about.
