Joyce Sidman: Hello, my name is Joyce Sidman. My mother claimed she named me Joyce because I was a very smiley baby, and was always laughing, and gurgling at everyone I met. She claims she was a little afraid I would go off with the first friendly person that came along, but I like to think I was a little more discriminating than that, even as a baby. My last name is my married name. It is was given to my husband's family when they arrived at Ellis Island from Russia, carrying a name that must have been too difficult for the officials there to pronounce. I'd always figured Sidman had been made up there on the spot, but I recently learned there is an entire town named Sidman somewhere in Pennsylvania. Maybe someday I'll visit.
