Betty Hicks: Hello, my name is Betty Hicks. I'm pretty sure that my name is almost impossible to mispronounce. Betty is a nickname for Elizabeth, which is my real name. There's lots of Elizabeths in my family, my grandmother, my aunt, my daughter, and my granddaughter, and my niece are all named Elizabeth, but all of us go by different nicknames. Beth, Lisbeth, Lisi, Betty, and Addison who goes by her middle name. My last name, Hicks, is my husband's family name. Our family lives in North Carolina where there's also a family of Hicksters who were famous oral storytellers. They live in the North Carolina mountains. I'm not related to them, but I like to think we share more than just the name, since we both care so much about the entertainment value and cultural importance of a good story.
