M.D. Osborne: Hello, my name is M. D. Osborne. It's easy to say and easy to spell. I like to use the initials M. D, which stand for Mary Decker, for two, no, three reasons. Reason number one, Mary Decker was an Olympic runner during the 1980s, and I never wanted people at the time to confuse me for her. I only run if there's an animal chasing me. Reason number two, Mary Pope Osborne is such a famous children's writer that kids often confuse my name with hers, and it's always a bit of a letdown when they find out I'm not her. And finally, reason number three, I like the sound of M. D. It sounds medical and funky. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll go by Doc Osborne instead of M. D. Osborne.
