Marina Budhos: Hello, my name is Marina Budhos and there's a funny story behind my name. The original family name is Budho, which was the family name down in Guyana, where my father was from. But, Budho actually means slow wit or guy without knowledge. It's a name you would tease someone with. So, when my dad, who immigrated to the U. S. and then worked for the Indian Consulate, he used to get teased a lot about his name. We added an S and changed it to Budhos. What happened is, we went from being the guy who is slow wit, Bud means knowledge, which is where we get Buddha, to the guy who had knowledge, Budhos. That was the change of the name.
