Liz Kessler: Hello, my name is Liz Kessler. My real name is Elizabeth, and this what I used to be called, especially if I was naughty.
"Elizabeth, stop doing that," for example, was something I heard quite a lot. I must have picked up the habit myself because, now, if I'm ever annoyed with myself and give myself a bit of a talking-to, I always find I call myself Elizabeth.
But to most people nowadays, other than doctors, bank managers, or people trying to sell me a new gas supply, I'm Liz.
A few close friends also call me Lizzy, which I really like.
Kessler was my father's family name. They were from Czechoslovakia, but had to leave there during the war because they were Jewish. Their escape is a fascinating story, which I don't have time for now. But who knows, perhaps it will appear in a book one day.
