Jim Harris: Hello, my name is Jim Harris. Some of you may think that, "Jim Harris is a pretty ordinary name, there must be 50 gazillion people named Jim Harris." And there probably are. But to me the name Jim Harris is very special, and I'll tell you why; It is because the name was given to me by a person that I admired and loved very much, my dad. His name was also Jim Harris, and he was the fifth child in a ... well, let's just say a very difficult, and sometimes abusive family. Due to problems that he had no control over, when he was only eight years old he often had to beg for food from the grocery store on the corner so that his mother and five sisters would have enough to eat. You can guess that he had a pretty rough go from the very beginning, and his childhood wasn't something that he talked about very often. When dad grew up, he married a pretty young girl and soon they had their first child, me.

Dad decided that he would give me a better childhood than he had had growing up, and to start off he gave me the most personal thing he had, his name Jim Harris. Then he worked hard without worrying about his own needs to give me the happiest, most secure and loving home that he possibly could. It was great, so I appreciate my name because I appreciate so much the man who gave it to me. When my first son was born, I gave him the same, common, ordinary name. A name that I hope he will always be very proud of, Jim Harris.
