Sigmund Brouwer: Hello, my name is Sigmund Brouwer. Brouwer is a Dutch name, my parents immigrated from Holland to Canada in the mid 1950s and when I was born they couldn't speak a word of English.

They thought they would name me after my grandfather, Simon, but my mother did not like that name because when she grew up there was a nursery rhyme about a kid named Simple Simon and she was afraid that kids would tease me and call me Simple Simon. So they changed it to Sigmund. Now, Brouwer is a Dutch name that goes a long ways back in history and it means brewer, so somewhere in my past, my ancestors brewed beer.

You can pronounce it brewer if you like, but the way I've always been taught and the way it's spoken in Holland is Brouwer, as in eye brow.
