Marjane Satrapi: Hi, my name is Marjane Satrapi. Marjane is kind of a common name in my generation, so all the kids that were born at the early '70's that was a lot of Marjanes, but I don't know if it has a specific meaning. The name Satrapi comes from the governor of the ancient provinces of Iran. 2500 years ago, the Persian empire was divided into different provinces and each province had a governor that was called a Satrap. I have been called Mary Jane, Marjane, Marjorie, or sort of thing, but it's Marjane. If you feel like calling me Marjane or Mary Jane or whatever, it's fine. I think all of those are beautiful names.
