J.B. Cheaney: Hello. My name is J. B. Cheaney, but you probably know that's not my name. It's my initials. When I was born, sometime in the last century, in Dallas, Texas, my parents named me Janie Beth. Beth was my grandmother's name, and Janie was just a name they liked. They sounded cute together, Janie Beth. Of course, my grandmother called me Janie Beth all the time. All was well until I got to college and met this guy, whose first name was Doug. As often happens, we started getting serious and even talking about marriage, but then I suddenly realized what my name would be if I married Doug Cheaney. But, I did it anyway. That's right, my real, actual name is Janie Cheaney, and that's why I use my initials, at least on a book jacket.
