Marthe Jocelyn: Hello, my name is Marthe Jocelyn and I will tell you a secret about my name. Marthe is usually spelled M-A-R-T-H-A and that is how my parents chose to spell it when I was born but when I was ten years old, I spent the summer with my family in a little town in Quebec called Trois-Pistoles. My brother and I took French lessons every day. The nuns who taught us were Sister Bernadette and Sister Antoinette. They called me Marthe as my name is pronounced in French and they spelled it with an e at the end instead of an a. When the summer was over, I took that e home with me as a souvenir and I have used it ever since.

My last name, Jocelyn, also has a story behind it. My grandfather, my father's father, was raised in a foundling home in England and never knew who his parents were. It was custom of that institution to give the babies new names when they arrived. By the time my grandfather came along, the officials were running out of ideas for new names, so they chose his from the city map. There was a place called Arthur Street and another one called Jocelyn Road, so my grandfather became Arthur Jocelyn. That is my heritage straight from the street directory.
