Laura Ruby: Hello. My name is Laura Ruby. I wasn't supposed to be named Laura Ruby. My mother was sure she was having a boy, so the only name she'd chosen was Eric. When I showed up, she thought she might name me Catherine, but then she had a crabby old relative named Catherine and didn't want her thinking she'd gone and named a baby after her, so I'm Laura most of the time. Except when I'm not, like in college when everyone called me Molly, and at home where my step-kids call me the law and my husband called me KT. Personally, I still think I would have made an excellent Catherine.
