David Romo: Hi. My name is David Dorado Romo. So I live on the US-Mexico border. So whenever I cross into Mexico, they call me David, and that's fine. And when I cross back into the United States where I was born, I was born in California, I'm David. So, Romo is in Spanish, and that's my last name. So in Mexico, I would actually be David Romo Dorado, because Dorado, which means golden in Spanish, is my mother's maiden name. And usually in Mexico, you put first your last name then your mother's maiden name; you use both last names. Whereas in the United States, if I were to call myself David Romo Dorado, people here would assume that my last name is Dorado. So it's kind of confusing. So that's why I put my mother's last name before she was born, her maiden name, in the middle; David Dorado Romo.

So Romo means a shrub. There's lots of desert shrubs you don't pay attention to, but they have healing properties. And Dorado means golden. And David is, well, it was originally pronounced Dawid in the ancient Hebrew. And then today, I guess it's David, which means beloved. So I guess my name means a beloved golden shrub. But it all depends on where and when you say a name. There's no absolute correct pronunciation, like I said. Some people call me David, and that's fine. And other people call me David, and that's fine too.
