Laurel Goodluck: My name is Laurel Goodluck. But most of my friends and family call me Laurie for short. But when I started to publish books, I decided to use my formal name just because it's pretty and I never used it too much. So I thought, "Why not now?" And my name, my mother found, she went to Haskell Institute and they had a yearbook and that's where she found it, Laurel. My maiden name is Atkinson, but I took my husband's name. I didn't decide to hyphenate or anything like that, is because his last name is Goodluck. And how fun is that? And actually that name comes from his great-grandfather. He was at a trading post, and back then in that age, Native Americans didn't have last names and so you were just usually given them. And so because he had a lot of good luck, they just gave him that name and he liked it, so he kept it.
