Sylvia Long: Hello. My name is Sylvia Long, although that's not the name I was born with. My parents originally named me Sylvia Louise Carlisle, Sylvia after my grandmother, Sylvia Lyman, Louise after my mother's sister, and Carlisle was my father's last name. My mother told me that when she was just dating my father, but they were very much in love, she wrote Sylvia Louise Carlisle several times in the margin of her school notebook, daydreaming of the time she might have a little girl. When I married, my name changed to Sylvia Carlisle Long, and was shorted to simply Sylvia Long when I began illustrating books for children, but I'm still extremely proud of my Scots/Irish roots and the Carlisle clan.
