Olivia Abtahi: My name is Olivia Abtahi and my name comes from the Shakespeare Twelfth Night. My sister is named Juliet, obviously from Romeo and Juliet. My parents really wanted a name that made sense in Farsi, the language of Iran, and Spanish, because my mom is Argentinian, and also in English. So when you are speaking in Farsi, my relatives call me Olyvya because there's no i's in Farsi, you just have y's. In Spanish my name is Olivia, or Olibia sometimes where they replace the V as in Victor with B as in Bravo. And then in English it's Ulivia. So, it kind of starts with the U.
I think it's really interesting because now that I'm a parent and I have to name my children, I'm going through the same really hard considerations. My sister, you know, she goes by Julieta, or in Farsi YAH-SA-MEN, Yasmine, Jasmine. Julia is just so universal and it's so interesting to see how my parents like stuck the landing and I'm still trying to figure it out. So, yeah my first name Olivia's super important to me. I'm one of the few Olivia's above the age of 30. It used to be a really rare name but now it's pretty common. And Abtahi, of course, is my Persian name. It's pronounced OB-TAH-HEE, but it's a little tough for folks. So, I always just go by AB-TAH-HEE and I love that my first name and my last name are both exactly six letters.
