Raphael Simon: Hello, my name is Raphael Simon, or is it Raf --EYE-el Simon, or Raf-EEL Simon? I have a confession. For most of my life, I haven't known how to pronounce my name because from the time I've been a boy I've never been, well, R-A-P-H-A-E-L. I've always been Raffi, sometimes Riff Raff or just Raf or Rafa, but mostly Raffi. Even as a grownup author, I haven't used R-A-P-H-A-E-L. I've used a pseudonym, Pseudonymous Bosch, but now a book is coming out with my own name on it, which is exciting, sure, but also nerve-wracking. I mean, what if someone asks me to read the name on the cover? It doesn't help to think of the arc angel or the Renaissance painter because people pronounce their names in all sorts of ways. So, recently I did something very embarrassing. I called my mother and I asked her what my name was. The answer, Raf-AY-el, long A, or is it Raphael Símon? Kidding it's Simon.
