Theo Heras: Hello. My name is Theo Heras, spelled Capital-T-H-E-O, Capital-H-E-R-A-S. So, it's a simple name. It's often mispronounced. My birth name is Dorothea Dollas. I was named after my paternal grandmother, my father's mother. It was the name I went by until I moved to a different city when I was a teenager. A new friend there declared that my name was too long to say and needed to be shortened. She gave me the nickname Theo and it has stuck since.

When I was an adult, I changed my last name to Heras.
I worried what my family might think about my name change. And then, I remembered that all of my grandparents changed their surname when they immigrated to North America. So, I was following a family tradition. Sometimes, it's hard for people to remember these name changes. Sometimes, even I forget. But you will find my name on my books, Theo Heras.
