Andrew Maraniss: Hi, my name is Andrew Maraniss. You're forgiven if you mispronounce it. My own grandfather on my mom's side always said More-AN-iss when he was talking to us, but it's actually pronounced MARE-a-niss. If you ever see me, if I ever visit your school, or we're ever at a book festival together, you can call me Andrew or Mr. Maraniss, but you could also call me Bamm. That's the nickname that I had when I was in college. And so there's a small group of friends who knew me decades ago that don't call me Andrew or Andrew Maraniss, they call me Bamm. And that comes from the Flintstones. There is a character called Bamm-Bamm, who is the baby on the Flintstones. And somehow that stuck with me when I was a freshman in college. And so now you know a little bit about a secret nickname that some people call me as well.
