Julie Flett: Hi friends. This is Julie Flett. My name is quite short, but it's very close to a single name, Juliet. Just a few more letters, and it's Julie Flett. My mom had a specific name planned for me when she was pregnant, but when I was born, she looked down at me and said, "Ah, no. This is Julie." The name she planned for me wasn't the one. Julie was the one.
My surname Flett is a name that comes from Scotland. I have a French, Scottish, Cree, and Métis heritage. In Central Canada, at Norway House Cree Nation or Cross Lake Nation, you'll find a lot of Fletts, as well as in the cities and other communities in Manitoba. You might like to have a look at a map and to see where that is.
There's a lovely fiddler who is named Walter Flett. Keep an eye out for his music or tributes to his music. It's a lot of fun to listen to. The surname Flett loosely translate to a stretch of land, which I love the idea of because that's one of my favorite things to draw.
