Rebecca Balcárcel: Hello, my name is Rebecca Balcárcel. My parents chose Rebecca because it's a name in both Spanish and English so both sides of my family can pronounce it. My last name is tricky though, so my mother made up a way to explain it. Like the ball in the car you are going to sell.

Most people aren't sure where to put the stress so I have this extra tip. The car gets the gas: ball, CAR, sell. My family laughs at all the ways our name is mispronounced but I love my name. It's the name of father's family in Guatemala and of a tiny village in Spain that I wonder if my ancestors are from. So even if my last name is hard and gets mispronounced, I'm glad to be Rebecca Balcárcel.
