Linda Bailey: Hello. My name is Linda Bailey, and to most people, the name Bailey sounds like an English name, but in fact, my father's family came to Canada from Ukraine, and when my grandfather immigrated here in 1913, the immigration people asked his name, and he told them he was Stefan Bialy. Unfortunately, the immigration people couldn't spell Bialy, so they wrote down "Baley." They wrote it down as B-A-L-E-Y, and my poor grandfather had to go through his whole life in Canada as Steve Baley. Later after that, when my father went to school as Harry Baley, the school looked at his name and they decided that his name must really be Bailey, and they put an I in it, so then he became Harry Bailey, and all his children became Bailey, and I became Linda Bailey. The name changed over these years, from Bialy, to Baley, to Bailey. As for me, well, I kind of like "Bialy" the best, I think, and maybe I'll use it one day as a pen name for myself.
