Lisa Bunker: Hi. My name is Lisa Bunker, my legal name is actually Elizabeth Bunker, but I use Lisa for everyday and for author work. And as a transgender person, I actually got to pick my own name. Quick story about that, the first time somebody asked me what I wanted to be called as a person living as a woman in the world, I felt this glorious sun rising inside my soul sort of feeling, and I said, "Lisa."
And I was thinking in that moment of a girl that I knew when I was five years old, who I had a strong reaction to. She was one of the only girly girls I got to meet as a young human back in the late 1960s and I had this amazing sensation when I met her. Which I now have figured out was a moment of identification. I felt like, "I think I'm you," and I kept her name secret inside myself all those years and the first time somebody finally asked me, I got to say.
The other half, Elizabeth, is I didn't quote like Lisa for legal and I did a quick search on the internet and found out that Lisa is a nickname of Elizabeth. Then I said my final choices into an anagram server because I care deeply about such things being a word geek. And my new full legal name, Elizabeth Hillary Bunker, Hillary with two l's, is an anagram of bizarrely hellbent haiku, and as soon as I read that I knew that was the one.
