Carole Estby Dagg: Hello. My name is Carole Estby Dagg. My father was overseas during World War II when I was born in Kansas City, but he wrote my mother to let her know he'd like me named after Carole Lombard, the movie actress who died when her plane crashed during a tour selling war bonds.

Estby is my maiden name, which is the name of the little village in Norway where my father's grandparents lived before immigrating to the United States.

Dagg—which in this country we pronounce Dagg to rhyme with "bag", not "dog"—is a shortened version of my husband's family name, Natt och Dag, which means "night and day" in Swedish.
