Michael Arvaarluk Kusugak: Hello. My name is Michael Kusugak.

Kusugak is actually a name in Inuktitut, but I think in Alaska they still call themselves Eskimos. Kusugak means icicle, you know those things that hang down outside buildings in the winter? It's pronounced Kusugak. That last K is pronounced way in the back of your throat.

It's what people call me down south. Up north where people speak Inuktitut, people call me Ackvaluk.

Ackvaluk is pronounced Ackvaluk.

Ackvaluk, and it means a baby bowhead whale, you know those big whales that people used to hunt way up north a long time ago for their oil and baleen? It's a baby one of those. Ackvaluk, and that's what my name is.
