Jean Little: Hello. My name is Jean Little. When I was a child, I wanted somebody to give me a nickname. My brothers and my sister had nicknames, but I didn't and I knew that if you asked them to give you a nickname, that wouldn't count. That's like saying, "Please tell me you love me." You want somebody just to say, "I love you" and you want somebody just to give you a nickname and nobody did. Then finally one day, I walked into the living room and my father said, "Oh, here she is, my blithe spirit," which is a little quote out of a poem, and I thought, " Wow, that's my nickname, blithe spirit." He never called me blithe spirit again, but I made that be my nickname so I could have a nickname like the others.
