April Chu: Hello, my name is April Chu. My last name, Chu, is a fairly common Chinese family name. It is pronounced Zhu is Mandarin Chinese, and it means the color red. The cool part about my last name is where it originated. My family and I have been able to trace my ancestors from my dad's side of the family to the emperors of the Ming Dynasty of China. House of Chu was the Imperial family of the Ming Empire, and they ruled China from 1368 to 1644.

But growing up, people were typically more curious about my first name. I've been asked many times before whether I was actually born in the month of April, and to answer that question, yes, I was. However, until this day, my parents have denied naming me after my birth month. My mom said that she actually named me after a character from a daytime soap opera television show and it was all purely a coincidence. I'm not sure which explanation is the truth, but I do know that I absolutely love my name. It's short, easy for people to remember, and my favorite month of the year.
