Brian Conaghan: Hello. My name is Brian Conaghan. People sometimes pronounce my name cono-HAN, con-a-KIN, con-a-HEN, but the actual pronunciation is CON-A-HAN.

Even though I'm Scottish, the name originates from Ireland, and it's an old Gaelic name as it was in the past O'Conagh-Kin, which subsequently became Conaghan. It's a pretty unusual name even in Ireland, so as I live in Ireland, when I make telephone calls to people and they asked me to spell my name, I say it's like County Monaghan, 'cause there's a county here in Ireland called Monaghan. It's the same pronunciation, and you just take away the first letters.

Some people, actually, in fact various people, mispronounce the name. And funnily enough, my mother continuously mispronounces my name. She says CON-A-KIN all the time, and she has done so for over 40 years. So if my own mother can't pronounce her name correctly, there's not much hope for any of us. But the actual pronunciation is CON-A-HAN. So if you break it into a couple of syllables, CON-A-HAN. Conaghan. Brian Conaghan.
