Angela Cervantes: Hello, my name is Angela Cervantes. Every year when my birthday comes around my mom likes to tell me the story of my first name. She says she went to the hospital to give birth to me certain that she would name me either Anna, or Monica. But after I was born, and the nurses brought me to her, she said I looked like an angel, so she named me Angela. It's a nice story, and I like my name. Some people they'll call me Ang, or Angie, but I really prefer Angela.
My last name is Cervantes, it's Spanish, and it's sometimes mispronounced as Cervantes, or Cervants, but it's a soft C, Cervantes. There's a famous writer named Miguel de Cervantes who wrote "Don Quixote," and because of him every English teacher or librarian I've ever met has always been able to pronounce my name correctly, so that's kind of nice. They're familiar with him and his work, so they always like to say my name right, and then they always ask me if I'm any relation to the great writer, and I always joke and say, "Of course, he's my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather." Then they always ask, "Are you a writer like him too?" And I'm always proud to answer truthfully to that question, "Yes, I'm a writer just like him." Angela Cervantes, that's my name.
