Lola M. Schaefer: Hello, this is Lola Schaefer. I was named Lola for my grandmother. She passed away right as my parents were married, and she kindly left them their very first home, and so it was their way of carrying on her legacy or remembering her to name me Lola. I've been teased a lot because, back in the '50s and '60s, Lola was a name that you did not hear very often. So sometimes people would come up to me and say, "Are you from Hawaii or from Indonesia? Where did you get a name like Lola?" But, of course, as time went on, I really have appreciated that I do have a distinct name, and one that means so much to me personally.
