David Skuy: Hi. My name is David Skuy, spelled S-K-U-Y. It's pronounced "sky" in North America, but hasn't always been that way. Originally the Skuys were from Latvia, near Russia, and it was pronounced "skoo-ya." My grandparents left Latvia to start a new life in South Africa in the 1930s. In South Africa it's pronounced "skooey." My father left South Africa to travel the world in the 1950s and ended up staying in Toronto, Canada. Canadians kept calling him Sky, not Skooey. He finally got tired of correcting them, and he just left it. Who knows how it will change in the future?
