Kathy Kacer: Hello, my name is Kathy Kacer. I've always had the name 'Kacer,' I never changed it even after I got married. But here's an interesting story about its origin. Both of my parents are from the country that was once called Czechoslovakia, and in Czechoslovakia, 'Kacer' is pronounced ['Ka-Chair' 00:00:18] . There's a little accent over the letter 'C' to indicate that it needs to be pronounced 'Cha.'
'Kacer' is the Czech word for a male duck. When my father came to Canada, he had a choice: he could either keep the name 'Kacer', but he would have to add an 'H' after the 'C' so that Canadians would know how to pronounce it. Or he could simply remove the accent from the letter 'C' and the name would become 'Kacer'. And that's what he decided to do, and that's why my name Kathy Kacer.
