Katherine Schlick Noe: Hello, my name is Katherine Schlick Noe. I'm named from my aunt Katherine, my mothers only sister. I was called Kitty for many years until I decided to take back my original name in honor of my beloved aunt. Schlick is German. It literally means mud. My fathers family came from northern Germany and the schlick was the land that was reclaimed from the sea so that it could be used for farming. Noe is my husbands name. There are many versions of Noe in languages throughout the world including French, Spanish, Hawaiian, and Japanese. Our version comes from the Noe region of France.

Many people, understandably, think my last name is pronounced Schlick Noe, rhyming with John Doe, but it's Schlick Noe and I always use both names to honor all sides of my family.
