Nan Forler: Hello, my name is Nan Forler. That is Forler as in the number four. People often ask me what Nan is short for. Nancy, Nanette? Nan is truly my full name. My mother didn't want anyone to call me Nancy, so she put Nan on my birth certificate. Her favorite teacher growing up was named Nan.

I have always liked having a name that was different from everyone else. I was never confused with another Nan in my class, and, when I call people, I rarely need to say my last name. I also like that Nan is a palindrome, a name spelled the same backwards and forwards, like wow, dad, mom, Bob, or Hannah.

A friend of mine wrote a poem about me once, called Nan Is a Verb. I feel like my name is really uniquely me.
