Saci Lloyd: Hello, my name is Saci Lloyd. I'm half Welch and Lloyd is a very common name here. It comes from the Welch llwyd, which means gray, and if you've been to Wales you will understand why it's such a common name. There's more slate and clouds and rain per square inch here than anywhere else on earth. My family were all miners and in the 19th century a whole bunch of us got tired of mist and arthritis, and we emigrated to Patagonia, which is a strip of desolate pampas grass bordering Argentina. The rest of the world was all making a beeline for the USA, but my family were strict Methodists, and they didn't want the American dream. They wanted the American nightmare.

As for what's behind my first name, well now that's the secret I never reveal. Although, I heard it once said that Saci means sunshine in Japanese, and it's also the name of a one-legged mischievous pipe smoking dwarf in the rainforests of Brazil. But none of these is the reason why I'm called Saci. I guess you'll never know.
