Karla Gudeon: Hello. My name is Karla Gudeon.
The name Gudeon came from my paternal grandfather. Back in Russia, his family name was Gudientes, which is Yiddish for "happy holiday." Upon coming to America, the Gudientes brothers changed their name to Ginsburg first, and then Gudeon some years later. I am proud to have passed this happy name onto my two sons, Sam and Max Gudeon.
My parents decided on Karla for my first name after finding books by the fabulous children's book author Karla Kuskin. I love that I am now working in picture books like my namesake.
