Jane Kurtz: My name is Jane Kurtz. I was named because my mom had a best friend named Jane, but when I was growing up, they always called me Janie. So I never even really related to the name Jane when I was a kid. When I started to publish books, when I had my first book published, I thought, am I going to want to be Janie when I'm in my 70s and 80s and still writing books? No, I better have a more dignified version of my name. You know, the truth is, it would've been fine to be Janie, because I'm fine with that name, and I am in my 70s now and it would be fine to be called Janie. So I kind of wish I had chosen the name that everybody knew me by.
