Maggie P. Chang: Hi, my name is Maggie P. Chang. My first name is actually Margaret, but people call me Maggie, and the P stands for Ping, which is my middle name. That is a shortened version of the word pingguo in Mandarin; that means apple. And when I was born, my mom says that my head was big, round, red, and shiny, just like an apple. So that's what inspired my middle name. I decided to include the P in my name on the cover of the book, and just as my author-illustrator name, because there are actually quite a few Maggie Changs out there, if you can believe it or not. So there are still other Maggie P. Changs out there, it's true, but this distinguishes me a little bit more.
