Susan Kuklin: Hello. My name is Susan Kuklin. People often mispronounce my last name, calling me Kookland or Cuckland. Nope, it's Kuklin, and it rhymes with Brooklyn. Sometimes when I tell people my last name, I have to spell it, K-U-K-L-I-N. I inherited the name from my husband. His grandparents were from Russia, where they were called Kukla. In Russia, kukla means puppet or doll. Somewhere down the line, his family must have been doll makers. When they moved to America, they changed the name to Kuklin, because it sounded more American. Sometimes I wish he kept the name Kukla, especially since, as a kid, my favorite TV show was Kukla, Fran and Ollie. Then again, Kuklin rhymes with Brooklyn, and that's so cool.
