Tips for a good recording
- These recordings are intended to be roughly thirty seconds to a minute and a half long and to focus on only you and your name, not your specific books.
- It can be helpful to consider what you want to say before you begin. You can even create a script for yourself if it is useful.
- Begin by introducing yourself. Something along the lines of “Hello, my name is…” works well. Be sure to say your full name as it appears on your books so people know who you are when they are listening. Pronounce it clearly as you prefer it to be pronounced so people can hear how they should say it.
- Talk about your name–first, last, or both. This can be a story such as where your name came from or why it was given to you, the history or meaning of your name, a method of pronunciation to help people say it correctly, or a story about your name in your life. Be creative and think about what your name means to you and what you would like to share about it.
- You can give any information you like (such as your real name if you write under a pen name), but you are not required to say anything you don’t want to. Only include what you are comfortable sharing!
- For the best quality recording, choose a quiet location and keep the phone microphone slightly away from your mouth and about the same distance from it the whole time.
- If you make a mistake or change your mind, you are welcome to either correct yourself as clearly as possible in the same message or start over with a new one. These are professionally edited and we will do our best to make it sound smooth and clear and to disguise or remove any mistakes.
